1916 Presentation of A Colour to 44th Bn AIF

A group of pictures showing the 44th Bn being presented their Regimental colour at the Claremont Showgrounds, WA in 1916. The first photo shows the colour guard and a full shot of the Colour.

The second shows the colour being blessed by the regimental padre who appears to be wearing a Wolseley pith sun helmet. The rest are general parade shots including a Digger in "shirt sleeves".

It's hard to believe he was he was allowed to be dressed like that on a formal parade.

Note the use of the "Queen Victoria Crown" on the Colour even though King George V was on the throne.

Note the strange assortment of headwear on the Diggers. Some with KFF (slouch) hats brim down, some brim up, some with a bash, some not, some with Service caps.

Note the Unit mascot.

Note the tents in the background.
