A 1939, 6&5/8,  "Akubra" Slouch Hat by Dunkerley Ltd with woolen hatband

This is a genuine unused 1939 model Akubra Brand slouch hat manufactured by Dunkerley Ltd. Note the oxidised (black) General Service badge (Rising Sun). Note that although the hat is full quality the woolen hat band is the economy WW2 version. Note the "recruit" bash that rarely lasted more than a few weeks. Note that the chin strap has not yet been attached.

Late WW2 "economy" version slouch to a Tobruk Battalion man

Note the lack of brim binding. Note the press stud on the turn-up. Issued late in the war to someone in the 9th Division, probably 2/23 Bn. The "T" badge indicates thet the Unit served in Tobruk, but not necessarily the individual soldier.

A 1982 model Akubra slouch hat from a cavalry unit

Note the 7 fold puggaree with broad band to the bottom and the newer darker khaki, less of a sand colour and closer to the hat colour.

Regiment badge of 2 Cavalry Regiment Royal Australian Armoured Corps. Inner sweatband with manufacturer and size details.
