original "field painted" helmet from that campaign.
The liner and chin strap are a post WW2 type.

The Officer's
peaked cap (Schirmmutze) was widely worn. This was a
conventional peaked
cap with a black leather peak and leather chinstrap. The crown was field-grey,
the band dark green. Waffenfarbe piping followed the crown seam and both top and
bottom edges of the band. A white metal straight-winged spread eagle and
swastika emblem was pinned to the front of the crown; below it on the band was a
white metal oak leaf wreath surrounding a raised, painted metal cockade. For
officers, the leather chinstrap was replaced by a double cord in heavy plaited
silver cord. |
| There
was also the" Old
style Officer's Cap "(Offizierfeldmutze alterer Art). It was
of similar shape to the peaked cap, but noticeably smaller in outline. This soft
and battered-looking cap was quite popular. It had no chinstrap or cords, though
officers occasionally added the silver cords. The peak was either of unstiffened
black leather or – less commonly – covered in field-gray cloth. |

Leather; Steel; Pair of
black leather three quarter length German jackboots (Marschstiefel) as
worn by other ranks. The boots are of a treated suede finish.
They have no toe-caps, and each has a
pair of black webbing pull-on straps sewn inside the uppers.
The heels are bound with metal, the
outside edge of which is stamped '20-R' or '20-L' respectively. The
soles are hob-nailed with the toes capped by screw-on metal
plates.
The insoles are stamped '28 1/2', and
a square leather label sewn to the outer pull-on strap of each boot
reads '28 1/2 4' with an illegible stamp in ink below.

| These are the
infamous NAZI Jackboots. They were worn by cavalry units in WW1 and
earlier, but became a symbol of Hitler's Storm-Troopers. Note the hob
nailed soles. |

Notes. The details as
listed are accurate to the best of my knowledge & belief. We try very hard to be
accurate. Before you complain about what you believe is an inaccuracy
please keep in mind that all the images are of war time uniforms,
medals, service ribbons and accoutrements. In war time the "by the
book" precision of a ceremonial parade may be altered or
compromised. Variations do and did exist. If you still believe we
have made a mistake please email your input with as much detail as
possible. None of the images is of a real WW2 warrior, they are all
representations for interest , historical and educational purposes only. |
