Colonial and pre WW1 Uniforms of Australia, Page 4

Australian Pre 1900 South Australian Militia helmet and uniform. This uniform is attributed to "James H Stapelton" includes white F/S helmet with QVC "South Australia" brass, militia helmet plate. This helmet is of Indian pattern cane-weave. SAM Scarlet mess jacket with waist coat, bullion rank of Lieutenant, gilt bullion piping ' SAM buttons, tailors label "Kirkham Evans & co Gawler place ", officers post 1902 KD tunic ' CMF' Kings Crown buttons, rank of Captain, has tailors label; 'Shierlaw & Co, Adelaide', A linen mess jacket, officers epaulettes green backing with red piping captains rank ,tailors label; Parker & Company 66 King WM St Adelaide named to J.H. Stapelton 1906.  Pre - fed SAM  side cap QVC G/S buttons gilt ,bullion piping dark green crown facing,,( no badge). Also two photos pre 1900 of James Stapelton in uniform, on card small and large. Stapleton also served in the Boer War with "1st SAMR" where he was promoted to captain on the 5/9/1900 and was Mentioned in Despatches in the London gazette. He was awarded a DSO and Queens Medal with 4 Clasps.
Pre-Federation N.S.W. Volunteer Artillery Sergeants Tunic with all Original insignia, just missing Flaming Bomb devices for collar & 4 buttons missing from rear of skirt part of tunic, N.S.W. Military Forces buttons in silver/nickel for Volunteers (made in England on rear of buttons).
