Click to enlarge Ernest John Crouch was born in 1847. He became a medical practitioner, a Justice of the Peace and officer in the Southern Tasmanian Volunteer Artillery ; died 1907.

Sergeant Archibald Coombe, MID, who served during the Boer War with the 1st Tasmanian Contingent, (Mounted Infantry) and the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen
His medals are the Queen's South Africa medal with three clasps (two additional clasps are shown); King's South Africa medal with two clasps; and the Long Service and Good Conduct medal, awarded at discharge in 1913. (donor a. Chaffey)

Click to enlarge Melbourne, Vic. c. 1902. Private Alfred Lewington.  During the Boer War Lewington joined the Cape Colony Cyclist Corps, an irregular unit raised in South Africa. He is wearing standard khaki drill summer uniform of the British and Australian forces. The plume in his hat is an ostrich feather, and the sword is just a prop.  (Donor L Clifford)

Click to enlarge Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) James McIntosh McGillivray , 5th South Australia contingent. Note the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee ribbon. He was one of six Mount Gambier members of the South Australian Contingent which went to England in 1897. RSM McGillivray died while serving in South Africa during the Boer War at Vankollensfontein on 21 July 1901.

They are probably the Mount Gambier members of the South Australian Contingent which went to England in 1897 for the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee. On their uniform, which is khaki with red facings, is the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee medal. 

 

Click to enlarge Australia c. 1905. Battery Sergeant Major (BSM) William Hammond Coleman, Australian Artillery. BSM coleman was a gunner in the NSW Artillery contingent to the Sudan. He is in full dress uniform and medals which are, from the left, Egypt medal (for Sudan), Queens South African medal (four bars), NSW Long Service Good Conduct medal, QV (trophy of arms type), Meritorious Service medal and Khedives Star.

1941-02-31. A.I.F. New uniforms at Royal Park. The Army was holding trials on an adjustable leg length uniform so that the wearer could adjust it to suit in the same way that sleeves can be adjusted. It was not a success.  Officer's uniform 1942 with new cloth belt
