Provisional Lieutenant Harold Henry Young, 3rd Military District, 73rd Infantry Regiment, Senior Cadets, aged twenty six years. 

Note the Victorian Rifle Association Queen's prize badge on his left sleeve. 

Young was a well known Victorian rifleman who won the Victorian Queen's prize badge in 1913, 1921, 1923, 1924, 1929, 1930 and 1933. 

Young served with the 7th Battalion in WW1 in Gallipoli, France and Belgium. 

He also served with the 18th Battalion, Volunteer Defence Corps, in World War 2.

"Father" of the Slouch Hat

Colonel Tom Price (seated) who is credited with introducing the slouch hat to Australia using his position in the Victorian Mounted Rifles. At that stage the brim was turned up on the right and the hat band was made of plaited leather. Note the differing colour of the stripes on the trouser leg.

Note the 4 chevrons with Crown which was the badge of rank of Staff Sergeant Major in that Corps. 

Dewar had previously served in the British Life Guards as a Warrant Officer. (see right).

The medal ribbons are not identifiable but almost certainly include the Queen Victoria Jubilee medal of 1887 or 1897 and possibly both.
