  • The Australian Army has uniforms for ceremonial service, others for normal day to day wear (barracks dress) and still others for work dress or bush dress.

  • I have attempted to show most of them.

This is a photo of a group of Army Reservists (donor included) at the annual Fire Power Demonstration exercise at Singleton Infantry Training School in 1986. Part of the exercise involved a “fashion parade” of old uniforms and weapons. Each digger paraded in front of the assembled ARA and ARES officers and senior NCO’s that had been gathered for the demo.

The announcer gave brief details of each campaign, the uniform and the weapon carried. The weapon was then fired using live rounds at targets down range.  Each uniform (originals i.e. not copies) and each weapon was taken “off the shelf” from the displays at the Infantry Museum at Singleton. Weapons were simply taken off the walls, cleaned, bolts inserted and they were then simply fired. The idea was to give a snapshot of digger uniforms & weapons in the 20th century. Each uniform (originals i.e. not copies) and each weapon was taken “off the shelf” from the displays at the Infantry Museum at Singleton.
