I
am searching out who were the originating sappers who donated money from
the Oz Army and Kiwi Army Association back in 1969 to buy a block of
swamp land in Kota Kinabalu, North Borneo, Sabah, for a local (then very
regional) school for their kids. The College of now 1200 kids,
primary and upper level school is known as the SANZAC College; Sabah,
Australia, New Zealand Army Corps College. They fly our flags and
call the three original class rooms, Anzac Heritage Rooms. I found them
out back in 1999 and have been taking my tour group from Perth to visit
every April during our Anzac Tour to Labuan Island, KK and Sandakan.
We do a dedication service there and this year hope to fulfil the start
of a scholarship programme with two West Aussie schools and one in
Sandakan. Longterm goal is a student exchange. So as you can
see the pennies were well worth it back in '69. |

Legend Tours requires assistance in any information as to who was
responsible for organising funds from the Australian and New Zealand
Army Associations, sending money to a village on the outskirts of Kota
Kinabalu in 1969 for the purchase of land to have a school built.
This was done and the school
subsequently called the SANZAC College is now part of a outer
metropolitan area servicing about 1200 pupils. The school administration
is setting up a historical museum site in the original classrooms built
and wish to gain any info as to their origins. Details of
documents, names of individuals involved, local municipal bodies etc.
would be most appreciated. Forward info to rowland@westnet.com.au
or ryan_flightline@westnet.com.au |
