| The Memorial, set in
the newly landscaped Sculpture Gardens just west of the main building is
approached past a wall with an explanatory description of the meaning of
the memorial. |
 |
This leads to a circle of white
granite engraved with the map of Japan with the area Occupied by the
Australian Component highlighted. At the spot denoting the City of
Yokohama a Time Capsule has been interred containing the names of those
who died during that period of service and are buried in the Yokohama
War Cemetery.
A semi circular wall faced with
stainless steel is engraved with information relating to that period and
pertinent to the BCOF operation. Behind this wall are massed beds of
Azaleas.
To complete the Memorial, a row of
three cherry trees, representing each of the Services lead off to the
west. |
