Unofficial and semi-official victory medals

Although not a Inter-allied Victory medal this was issued by the British Government for the British colony of Hong Kong to celebrate "Victory over Germany". Struck in white metal, 35mm, obverse with Britannia and inscribed 'Hong Kong', reverse with wreath, within 'In Commemoration of the defeat of Germany 1919', pierced with double loop suspension. Original ribbon. Fine condition. A extremely rare medal.
  • Beautiful civilian medal measuring 1.5" in diameter issued in 1919 to commemorate victory in  The Great War. 
  • The medal shows King George V and Queen Mary to one face with the other having a figure holding a dove and a laurel. 
  • In the background is a farmer working the fields and a soldier at the side of an artillery gun.

New Zealand "Great European War 1914-1919 Peace" medallion

  • School Peace Medal - 1919 Issued by Australian Department of Defence

     

    Description - This medal was distributed to Australian school children in 1919 to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in June 1919, formally ending the hostilities of World War One (WW1). The medal was designed by Douglas Richardson and distributed by the Australian Department of Defence.

     

    On the obverse side an Australian soldier and sailor support a shield, surmounted by the symbolic rising sun with sun rays radiating from the imperial crown of King George V and the word VICTORY. The shield is surrounded by a wreath and bears the legend THE TRIUMPH OF LIBERTY AND JUSTICE and THE PEACE OF 1919 is contained within a scroll at the base of the shield. The reverse side has Victory standing, with arms spread with clothing billowing across the defeated, and below her is the legend PEACE 1919 and AUSTRALIA.

     

    The medal was struck by Stokes and Son of Melbourne, Australia and bears the initials of the designer in the exergue of the medal. Measurements: Diameter 27mm (1 1/16")

  • One of only a small number of WW2 Service Medals that were created compared to WWI .
  • French Verdun WWI Battle Medal (approx 25mm), correct unmounted ribbon. This unofficial (semi-official) medal was available to all US Veterans awarded the Meuse Argonne Clasp, however few took the action necessary to obtain the medal.
  • Presented by the State of New Jersey (USA) to it's citizens who served in the World War
  • Presented to "----" by Iron County, Hurley Wisconsin in grateful recognition of patriotic service in the World War.
  • The inscription "They did not pass" is based on the famous quote  'They shall not pass'  which is said to have originated with (French) General Robert Nivelle (1856-1924) at the battle of Verdun in 1916.  
  • Presented to "----" by the City of Green Bay Wisconsin in grateful recognition of patriotic service in the World War.
  • For Democracy, Liberty and Justice
  • Presented in appreciation of loyal service by the Borough of Bangor (Northampton County Pennsylvania)
  • Dutchess County, New York WWI Service Victory Medal.

World War I service medal.  It is bronze in color.  On the front of medal it reads "Service In The World War."  On the back it reads "Honor For Duty Nobly Done North Cincinnati Homecoming Day July 5th 1919." >>
