Some medals of the USA

- Where an American award has 13 stars
they represent the original 13 States of the USA
- These awards are NOT presented
in correct Order of Wearing.
- The names are accurate, I
think, but errors may have been made.
- Very few of these awards have
ever been made to Australians.
- These images are here for the
sake of interest.

Republic
of Korea; Korean War Service
Medal |
U.S. veterans of
the Korean War are now eligible to wear a medal initially offered to
them more than 50 years ago, but never issued. In
a May 13, 2000, letter to Defense Secretary William S. Cohen, Republic
of Korea Defense Minister Seong Tae Cho formally announced that his
government would provide the Republic of Korea Korean War Service Medal
(ROK-KWSM) to eligible U.S. veterans of that conflict, or to their
surviving next of kin. The medal will be provided at no cost to
veterans. The U.S. Air Force has been designated the lead agency to
receive and distribute the medals. |

American Campaign medals from
earlier Campaigns/Wars |
- The interest for Aussies here,
apart from a general interest in medals, is the timeline. While the
British Empire was involved in the Boer War America was invading and
then occupying
- Cuba,
- Puerto Rico and
- the Philippines. It was also
involved in the
- China Relief Force (Boxer
Rebellion) and the
- Spanish-American War (where
barbed wire made it's military debut).
- and while the British Empire was
fighting WW1 the Yanks were invading Mexico.
