Coronation, Durbar & Jubilee medals
  • These are medals that were presented to certain Australians, VC winners, Aides-de Camp and certain high ranking officers. They are celebration medals, awarded for attending, as an invited guest a Royal Occasion.
  • A Durbar is the ceremony that certifies the Sovereign as Emperor of India. It is a sort of coronation. The first word is the name of the city in which the ceremony was performed. In the time that is of interest to us there were 2 Durbars. 1903 and 1911.

1897 identical to 1887. If you attended both you got a "1897" bar for your original medal

Coronation of Edward VIII medal. This unofficial medal is 1¼" (32mm) in diameter, and in very good condition. Although china/porcelain items commemorating the Coronation that never took place are relatively common, medals are very rare. This is probably because the lead time for their production was much shorter than with china items, and in most cases production was cancelled when the Coronation was postponed until 1937. Edward abdicated in late 1936 and George VI took the throne.
