Medals & badges struck to commemorate ANZAC

ANZAC Nurse

According to G.P. Oldham (Author of "Orders, Decorations, & Medals Awarded to New Zealanders" 1991) there are ONLY TWO (2) known examples of Gallipoli Medallions awarded to Nursing Sisters. The ONLY other example rests in a Private Museum.

Nurses of the NZEF who saw active service in The Great War had their service number designated by "22/XXX" (IE they had "22" in front of their serial #) Sister Mabel Crook of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service was the 22nd Nurse and has (oddly) the # 22/22 !!

Sister Mabel Crook earned her Registered Nurse badge at Palmerston North Hospital (NZ) in 1911.Nursing Sister # 22/22 Mabel Crook served aboard the Hospital ship "Nevasa" AT GALLIPOLI in 1915.
