The Order of the Dragon China 1900
  • Military Order of the Dragon.

    • A medal from the Boxer Rebellion. 

    • Officers only. 

    • It had to be purchased. 

    • Very rare. 

    • Only 21 to Australians

The various colonies gained permission to award their forces Long Service & Meritorious Service Medals similar to the British army. 4 types are known.  

Right centre is the face of the first, a Trophy of Arms design. 

Types 2, 3 and 4 had the Regents head on the obverse. (Young Victoria, older Victoria and Edward V11)  

All were different on the reverse. Each colony, or State after 1901, had their own design. Very few ever issued (fewer than 200) .

The Long Service and Good Conduct Medal Awarded to 90 Battery Sergeant Major Alexander Dingwall for his service with the Southern Tasmanian Artillery. The medal was gazetted in Hobart Gazette No 6465 of 7 June 1898.
Obverse – Crowned bust of King George V facing left. Around it is the Latin legend GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT.OMN.REX.ET INDIAE.IMP. [George the Fifth by the Grace of God King of all the Britons and Emperor of India]. Reverse – Australian arms within native flora, with the legend HIS MAJESTY THE KING'S MEDAL ROYAL AUSTRALIAN MILITARY COLLEGE.
Small Boer War Medallion , shows Queen Victoria on one side along with an Australian Flag and the Royal Standard and reads " British Transvaal War 1899 - 1900." 

On the reverse it shows George and the Dragon and reads " Success to 1st Aust Imperial Contingent."

  • Semi-official medallion issued to commemorate the Australian involvement in the Boer War.

ROYAL ARTILLERY REGIMENTAL MEDAL  - Face of medal has Trophy of Arms with the motto - IN DEFENCE - obverse of medal is engraved 1st C. of  C. A. V.  presented by C. J. BLELOCK Esq for the best attendance at drill 1881, won by GUNNER W. MASSEY 1st BATTERY, ring suspension, I believe it to be silver although it is not hallmarked.
