Enameled and plain brass versions were made. Enameled were of Officers.

The centerpiece of this badge is a 'black-boy", a native plant that is part tree part grass. It grows on a thick stem and the new leaf material resembles grass. It grows from the top and hangs down. From the centre top a long thin stem emerges to grow several feet above the rest of the plant.
